SIR.
I have the honor to enclose a copy of my Testimonials and a Memorial addressed by me to His Excellency the Governor of Hongkong, praying him to appoint me to the Colonial Surgeoncy of that Colony which I am given to understand is about to become vacant,
I beg you will be good enough to submit these papers to His Excellency the Governor, praying that he will be pleased to forward them to His Excellency Sir Richard Mac Donnell, and I shall take it as a very great favor if you will kindly add your recommendation.
I further have the honor to state that my sole reason for applying for the said office in Hongkong, is the utterly inadequate salary for un European and the distant prospects of promotion I have in this Island.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your most Obedient Servant,
W. P. CIARSLEY Esq. M. D.
J. D. M. COGHILL,M. D. Asst. Colonial Surgeon.
Principal Civil Medical Officer and Inspector General of Hospitals.
Colombo.
